Active fun for car loving toddlersJul 12, 2008

My son got this as a present from grandpa, and just loves it. He is 2.5, but I don't see where the "small parts" on this car are: it is just one piece. He doesn't know the film Cars, or the characters; he is just attracted to the bright red car, which is a great size for him to hold in both hands. He loves that it responds to the movement of him shaking with engine revving sounds. And it is exciting to see it take off suddenly after announcing "Speed! I am Speed!" or "The checkered flag is MINE!"
Mama loves that it isn't as loud as many toys. That he has a toy that invites, indeed needs, physical involvement: no more shouting "don't shake that!" I also love that it doesn't go so far .... he shakes it, puts it down, it takes off, and he runs after it. Rince and repeat. It is the antithesis to those remote control cars that don't invite any physical movement in the child at all (we all know 3 yr old boys need to burn off energy, not have "energy saving" devices so they can sit on their butts). The car seems to be quite solid, having fallen off the table several times as it zoomed off (it really is a floor toy) and it keeps him occupied for quite a long time. It was very helpful on a long trip. You can shut it off and it is played with quietly, or turn it on and have the attraction of movement, sound and action. I don't usually like movie tie-in toys, but this one is a winner.

At first I was surprised at how small the car was. I figured it was much bigger for some reason. But it's great and loads of fun for my son! Love it!

I got this toy for my 2-year old nephew who loves Lightning McQueen. He was super excited and started playing with it right away. It's fairly small, but it was the perfect size for him. He has to use two hands to shake it but he loves putting it down and watching it go. I'm not sure how entertaining it would be for an older child, but overall it's the perfect toy for my nephew!

This is a fun toy for a young child (not recommended for children under 3 due to small parts, according to the label). You shake it, and McQueen says "Speed, I am speed" and off he goes. You can even use this opportunity to teach the kid how the mechanism works.
But the quality is not high on this China-made product. McQueen's eyes, for instance, are painted on a cheap sticker which can fall off easily. The shake-n-go mechanism sometimes would not work, even after I insert a fresh set of Energizer batteries.
Overall, if your kid is a fan of the Cars movie, he or she will have a great time with this for a while.
