Had to return three times!Nov 14, 2006

My daughter loves this toy, but I had to take it back three times to Walmart. First time, it wasn't scanning the items correctly, and the other two times it wouldnt work anymore after I took the tag out of the back by the batteries. I made sure I took the toy out of the box and checked it at the store before I brought it home this time. I'd give it more stars if it wasn't for the trips to the customer service line.

Big hit with our 4 year Daughter!Jan 13, 2007

From our daughter's perspective this is a huge hit!! She loves talking on the microphone, scanning the tags and paying with the Dora Dollars. She loves that she can put the extra tags on some of her own stuff and then "buy" them.
From a mom's perspective there needs to be a volume control, the scanner needs to work a bit better. Like other reviewers have said it doesn't always scan right. The only way to get it to work good is to lay the tag flat and line up the arrows exactly. Easy for an adult not so easy for a little kid. Also all of the extra pieces are great and add to the fun but there is no place to store them. And yes the crown IS strangely way too small!!
All in all this is a great toy that is a lot of fun to play with and a great way to spark imaginary play.

A Big Hit on Christmas Morning!Jan 09, 2007
By Aimee Estes My daughter is six years old and I was actually concerned that this toy might be a little young for her. But she had asked for a cash register and I loved that this one came with items to purchase that had price tags on them that could be scanned. Well, she loves it too! She and her friend from next door played with this for hours Christmas day. They both loved talking into the microphone ("clean up on aisle four" was the mantra for the day!). The games and activities are quite educational. They took turns being the "buyer" and the "seller" and I heard them discussing price and change in both English and Spanish along with Dora. The toy is sturdy and well made and so far works perfectly. I do wish they had included a bag or container for all the cute little accessories, but we took care of it ourselves. Overall a great toy!

Not at all what I expectedFeb 06, 2007
By Liz I bought this for Christmas for my 3 year old. She's used it once since then. I took it out today to give it another chance. This product falls short in a lot of ways. If I had known exactly how the register worked before I purchased it, I would have bought something else. If it wasn't too late to return it, I would. There are three ways to play with it: Adventure Play lets you follow along on a page in the book provided. Basically you scan the 3 items on the page, "Dora" tells you the total and that's it. There is no place for the total to be displayed and the register doesn't have a function that let's you input the amount that you are giving to the cashier. Scanner Play allows you to scan items with tags on it. The scanner is very sensitive and more than half the time the wrong items are scanning. Free Play allows you to talk on a microphone that is too short even for my 3 year old. You need to hold down the microphone button while your talking on it and that doesn't work consistently either. There is also a credit card you can swipe and a place where someone can sign their name. You press the Cash button to open the Cash drawer. I'm listening to my 3 and 5 year old girls playing with it now. It's ok, if they are just pressing random buttons and using the extra features, but if they actually want to scan things and get totals, forget it. I am kicking myself for being sucked into the Dora craze and not buying an old fashioned, working register. I just assumed that the register would have a + button and a number display. My $5 calculater has a display for goodness sake! There also aren't enough coins provided to make change with. Save your money, it's not worth it.

Dora the Exlplorer Cash RegisterJan 09, 2007

We bought this Cash Register for our 5 year old Granddaughter for Christmas. She was in love with it right out of the box. It has lots of
pieces of "money" etc with the microphone connected to the register. She and her 5 year old cousin played for a long time together and had lots of fun. When it comes to the microphone it is loud! They loved it but it could drive an adult crazy after a while! It seems sturdy and durable.
I was pleased with the purchase.
