Probably the most durable/interactive Lego Set we haveJan 06, 2009
By Bryan Newman

I'll confess up front I am not a Bionicle fan, but my seven year old is. So when he requested this for Christmas I was not too excited. But I have to admit his may be the best Lego set for playing interactively with.
This is a fairly expensive set, but we felt we got our moneys worth. The design is fairly complex and we were building it off and on for several days. There are some well thought out gears that allow you to deploy the weapons and can then retract them back into the body of the vehicle. A similar set of gears allow you to manipulate the claws at the back of the vehicle and another to control the landing gear. The gears work smoothly and consistently -- very well designed.
I am a huge fan of my son playing and designing with Legos but the one draw back seems to be that most sets are better for display than play. We are constantly repairing Star Wars sets due to pieces falling off. The Bionicles and this kit in particular seem much more in line for active play. My son has taken this kit everywhere and even slept with it and it has neither broken or lost pieces.
I'm still not personally a Bionicle fan, but I cannot argue the quality of this kit or the fun my son has had with it. If you like bionicles, I highly recommend this set.

The best bionicle ever! (according to my 10 year old)Jan 23, 2009
By amazonbuyer Axalara T9 took our 10 year old about five hours to build. I helped put all the pieces in order according to size and function. This was the only assistance he received and it really helped to streamline construction. I did not hear one complaint or sigh of frustration during the entire process.
He hasn't put the Axalara T9 down since he finished the project. He carries it around the house and explains the mechanisms behind the moving parts to anyone willing to listen. The moving parts are a BIG attraction and a lot of fun for a 10 year old, especially when they are the one to construct the piece.
This piece does have 3 instruction booklets. So my recommendation would be that this should not be the first Bionicle your child has ever constructed. Start with a small to medium sized Bionicle so the child can get a basic understanding of how the Bionicle pieces work together.

Interesting and Fun Bionicle ProjectFeb 08, 2010
By S. Lentz The Axalara T9 has a number of fun and interesting mechanical features that really work. There are doors that open and the three tail pieces open and close in response to turning knobs. It took my 7 year old son all day to build it; he made one critical error (the mechanism that moves the tail fins wasn't centered properly) and a couple minor ones that I was able to fix after studying the instructions. This is one of the few lego projects he hasn't wanted to take apart after a week or two; he enjoys playing with the completed spaceship. It's pretty big - a good two feet long - and it takes up a lot of space on top of his bookshelf. This is definitely an advanced project and probably not for someone new to Legos or Bionicle. That said, no other building toy has the precision of Legos and if you follow the instructions carefully, they will always go together properly. Overall, highly recommended.
