5Excellent, with only minor flawsJan 21, 2007

I picked this up along with a Clone Battle Pack and Droids Battle Pack, both of which I've also written reviews on.

This is a nice addition to the Star Wars Ep III sets, which really weren't all too good. This is definetely one of the good sets.

Let's start with Grievous. The body is the same as the other General Grievous from the Grievous Chase LEGO. Battle droid body and legs, but four arms and obviously a different head. The lightsabers are just plain ol' lightsabers. Nothin special about em. There are two different things aboutthis Greivous though. The first difference is that he doesn't come with his cape, which isn't a problem; it actually got in the way of placing him on the wheel-bike in the origonal set. The second difference is that he comes with a blaster. It's a new blaster, differently shaped and better detailed.

The starfighter itself was a little nicer then what I had first expected. It's very easy to construct and light-weight. It also has an interesting sliding cockpit, which if I'm not mistaken, has never been on another LEGO starship before. Theres a small place under the craft to store his lightsabers, which really helps if you have a hard time keeping track of them (I know I do), but no place to put the blaster (not a problem). The laser are slightly movable. There are two small flaws. One of these is that the lightsaber holder can get in the way of holding and placing the ship forboth play and display. It can be taken on and off easily enough. The second is that the landing gear in the back can ocassionally fall off during rough play. This does not happen every time and it can easily be placed back on.

This is a nice deal for only $[...], especially if you need a General Grievous figure. Even if you already have the wheel-bike you should consider getting this anyway; it's a great deal.

3So, and so.Aug 15, 2007
By Enrique De la Garza III "rique"
I did not have a choice in this being bought, my kid brother bought it for me because he wanted me to add it to my collection, and we both put it together and were having fun till things started falling apart, and we had to put pieces back together over and over before continuing.
One thing I did not like about lego set was the way you basically just threw the figure in the cockpit, well not threw so much as finagling a way for him to fit in there with his blaster between his legs. And the lightsabers stored at the bottom, just a way to keep the set simple and cheap, which it was. I would recommend this if its going to sit on your shelf as a display, otherwise, don't buy it. But if you are a collector, that's a whole different story.

3Comes apart too easilyAug 07, 2007

My seven year old son purchased this toy for his birthday. Though the ship is nice to look at and fun to construct, it comes apart too easily during play, which frustrates him greatly.

5Discontinued, but alternatives available!Jan 05, 2011

If you're looking for Lego sets, be aware that this set, like many others is now discontinued. Therefore, be aware that the price is now being dictated by collectors and 3rd party sellers. Hopefully this review will help you make an informed decision before you buy. Sometimes the same item is listed multiple times on Amazon. Therefore, you have to look at each product listing to find the best price. Sometimes Lego also releases the same or similar set again, but with updated styling or with a different number of pieces. These newer sets can often be had for less than the discontinued version.

This product is Lego set #7656, with 232 pieces.

Here are all similar product listings for the discontinued set #7656. It likely retailed for about $25-30:
LEGO : StarWars General Grievous Starfighter
LEGO Star Wars General Grievous Starfighter
General Grievous Starfighter Star Wars Lego

There is also a smaller set that is discontinued, #8033, with only 44 pieces. This likely retailed for about $5-10:
LEGO Star Wars Set #8033 General Grievous Starfighter
LEGO Star Wars Set #8033 General Grievous Starfighter

Here are the listings for the current Lego model, #8095 with 454 pieces (nearly twice as many!). This retails for $50:
LEGO Star Wars General Grievous Starfighter (8095)
Lego Star Wars: General Grievous Starfighter (8095) Vehicle

Lego Star Wars General Grievous Starfighter Style # 8095

I recommend you try to purchase directly from Amazon rather than a 3rd party merchant, even if it is "Fulfilled by Amazon". Buying from a 3rd party subjects you to dealing with that individual merchant if the product is defective or not as described. Many 3rd parties will also charge unfair shipping costs or over-inflate the cost of the product. Not all 3rd parties do this, but just use caution and common sense. Be sure to read the entire description, paying attention to the model number, the number of pieces, and its condition (new, collectible like-new, used, etc). If you are indeed after a discontinued set, you will need to buy from a 3rd party, so follow these tips to minimize any surprises or disappointment.
