4Nerf gets it right when everyone else didn't.Apr 15, 2009

I love this gun! It is so much better then anything else out there. In fact, I was working on plans to MOD/build my own gun for the Wii when I stumbled on this little beauty at the now closed Circuit City store. This gun feels right in my hand. It looks pretty cool as well, not like the other guns (cheap plastic feel).

I have logged a lot of play time with this gun so far (playing House of the Dead 2 &3 and House of the Dead Overkill) and find it very comfortable. My one small gripe is that the handle is a little short. My trigger finger and two other fingers fit fine, but my pinky just dangles. This is my only complaint, and reason why I give it only four stars. Yes, I understand it is made with children in mind, but a couple of more inches on the handle and both kids and adults could be a lot more comfortable. That said overall Great product and until there is an actual Wii gun made (like Capcom did for the Playstation)this Nerf gun is the top of the line.

4Good peripheral and decent gameDec 12, 2008
By Justin Strother "TANSTAAFL!"
I was looking for a pistol type Zapper attachment for my Wii for other games when I saw this pack at Walmart. I thought it sounded pretty cool, so I picked it up. So far, I have no regrets.

The controller, or more specifically the Switch Shot EX-3, is a rather nice toy all around. The Nerf dart launcher portion fires a single dart at a time with a manual reload. It has decent range and accuracy and I'm generally pleased with it. The barrel can be removed and replaced with a Wii Remote, allowing for use with any game that can use the Wii Zapper peripheral. The back of the gun is exposed with plenty of room for a Nunchuck attachment. The downside is that the gun is a bit front heavy with a Wii remote attached, so long play periods might put a good deal of stress on the forearms. Granted, this can be alleviated by taking frequent breaks, which you should be doing anyway. Durability is an issue, though. I haven't broken mine, but the clasp at the front of the gun feels a little on the weak side. If you pull on the front housing too hard, you would likely break it and render the toy completely useless. Parents, help kids switch the Wii remote and Nerf dart barrel. There's an easy release spring button on the front of the gun, and should release with no resistance.

The game was unexpectedly good. The goal is to shoot targets and Nerf equipped Robots using various virtual Nerf weapons. There are several modes of play, and the game can be quite challenging. I would heed the e10+ rating on this game simply because very young children might not have the motor skills to enjoy the game. The game is fairly fast paced with most of the challenges being timed. There is also something to be said for accuracy. The virtual Nerf weapons react similarly to their real life counterparts, having a parabolic trajectory. This can cause some unusual aiming problems but shouldn't prevent the game from not being enjoyable.

Overall, my only complaint is the sometimes heavily cliched story and the balance point on the gun being too far forward. It is an excellent peripheral and I will highly recommend it to my customers.

4The Zapper alternative I've been waiting for...Jan 12, 2009
By Stuck in Houston
While I liked the Wii Zapper, I did want a pistol-style gun as well so I searched out for an alternative that I can use. Unfortunately I did not like the alternatives for one reason or the other. Some had the trigger in the wrong place while others either had too much pull on the trigger or the trigger spring was stronger than I like (I did not like Nyko's Perfect Shot for this reason).

The Switch Shot has several advantages it shares with the Wii Zapper over the other guns. The trigger, like the Wii Zapper, only requires a light press to activate so it's easy to fire for kids or people who prefer a light trigger. Also like the Zapper, the remote holding and release mechanism is designed so that you can insert and remove the remote from the gun with minimal friction damage yet provide a secure hold on the remote during gameplay. Finally, it's the only other gun I tried that let's you keep the strap on the remote during insertion and use.

There are a few disadvantages for the Switch Shot one of which is that it's front-heavy due to where they positioned the remote in the gun. I feel with some tweaking they could have made a better-balanced gun but it is not a deal-breaker as you can overcome this by using the other hand to support the gun. One of the advantage I mentioned above, the light trigger, can be a turn-off for those who prefer the Perfect Shot's spring trigger. Also as one of the other reviewers mentioned, the mechanism that holds the remote in place does seem like it can break if you try to pull on it without pushing the release button. However, as long as you don't grab onto that part during gameplay (there shouldn't be any reason to), it shouldn't be a problem and it does seem sturdy enough when left alone.

The Switch Shot has an open area in the back that allows the Nunchuck to be attached so it is compatible with games that use Zapper-controls. It can also be converted into an actual Nerf gun which for me is a mild bonus since I don't really have a use for it other than shooting it at anyone who intrudes on my game-playing. ;) Overall I do like it a lot compared to the other guns.

4Kid Yay, Mom BooJan 10, 2009
By C. Barnes "Mo Java"
This is the one toy my 9 year old son wanted for Christmas. He loves it. He can play now with a friend on the wii game. He thinks that it is one of the best nerf guns ever even if you don't use it with the wii game. He is quite impressed with the product.

I on the other hand think that it was crazy expensive and was really disappointed to see that all it does for the wii is allow you to pull the trigger and then it engages the "b" button on the bottom of the wii remote. So it isn't necessary to buy an additional gun just to play two players. They could just point the remote and push the "b" button.
But, he loves it, he loves playing against a friend when they both have a nerf gun to use with the remote, and he only wanted one thing for christmas anyway.
