5It's FUN!Apr 02, 2010
I read the review that stated that the game was so boring for adults and required minimal intellectual skill. Had to respond...gee, we love it! Tons of fun. Guess we are entertained by boring games!

5I never knew I had such cutthroat friends!Jan 29, 2010
Once a week I get together with some friends. We eat too much, drink just enough, and then play a couple of games of Skip Bo to warm up for a few games of Bananagrams.

Skip Bo is a very simple game to learn. You've got cards numbered 1 through 12, plus Skip Bo (wild) cards. You build piles from 1 to 12. When someone new joins us, it takes about two minutes to explain the game.

Once you've learned the basics, then you can start figuring out strategy. I've been playing for about a year and I finally feel like I'm honing my game now. It's fun to watch my friends figure out which cards to discard and which ones to play, based on everyone else's cards that they can see. Sometimes we'll play well with others, and sometimes we'll shoot ourselves in the foot to keep someone else from playing a card. And when one person is down to one last card, everyone else gangs up on that person, shouting strategy across the table to keep that person from winning.

During the day they seem like such nice people!

When we get an even number of people we'll play in teams. Suddenly the folks who weren't shy at all about shouting across the table are communicating with teammates with a sly look, a raised eyebrow, or an itchy nose.

Everyone brings a deck of Skip Bo cards, and we've each marked the backs of our cards with different color markers. When we've got too many people for just one deck, we can play with two decks and split them up at the end of the night.

5team workDec 31, 2009
No one has mentioned playing this game with teams. It is the most fun with 6 players and two teams as when it is your turn, you have two other piles and discards at your disposal to direct your teammates to play. We love this game when Grandma and Grandpa visit!

5Wonderful game for ALL ages.Dec 17, 2009
This game has been a favorite of my family for many years (The fourth generation is starting with it now). One thing that we do: at around the age of six or so (the kids all pine for the day that they can join the Skip-Bo game with the rest of the 'big' family)we allow them to play with fewer cards (usually turned up for the first couple of games), so they have a chance of winning. So, the six-year old plays with 10 cards, while the rest of the players play with 20. . . gradually, they get as many cards as the veteran players. Eventually the child must sink or swim with the rest of us. It becomes a rite of passage. . . Additionally, this is a 'think fast' game in our family . . . lots of gentle nudges to think quickly and keep the game going. If a player takes too long to make his or her moves. . . the rest of the family will pounce. . . Potential mates to family members have been nixed based on their ability to play this game with the rest of the clan.

4Great card game.Nov 16, 2009
This is one of those card games that doesn't get boring. It takes a couple tries games to get the hang of it but once you know what you're doing it's even better.
